                                                                Unteachable by Leah Raeder

Blurb:

This novel contains graphic sexual content and strong language. It is intended for mature readers.

I met him at a carnival, of all corny places. The summer I turned eighteen, in that chaos of neon lights and cheap thrills, I met a man so sweet, so beautiful, he seemed to come from another world. We had one night: intense, scary, real. Then I ran, like I always do. Because I didn’t want to be abandoned again.

But I couldn’t run far enough.

I knew him as Evan that night. When I walked into his classroom, he became Mr. Wilke.

My teacher.

I don’t know if what we’re doing is wrong. The rules say one thing; my heart says screw the rules. I can’t let him lose his job. And I can’t lose him.

In the movies, this would have a happy ending. I grow up. I love, I lose, I learn. And I move on. But this is life, and there’s no script. You make it up as you go along.

And you don’t pray for a happy ending. You pray for it to never end.

Aimi's thoughts:

I just finished Unteachable today after acquiring it last night and had to sneak in few pages at work because I crave- oh I so fucking crave for that book.
Even now, my heart is beating fast. I'm in a state of delirium, high in my own world, drunk with such overwhelming emotions.

Let me say this. I'm currently suffering from a reading slump. I believe reading slump is a psychological condition when you read so many books and mostly five stars books that after a while, everything starts to taste like ashes. And that's how most books tasted like to me. Like I was swallowing a mouthful of ashes. My normal average was 2 books a day (I have no life, I know) but now I'm struggling to even finish one within 2 weeks. So I decided to take a break from reading. What's the point of reading books with high reviews if I can't enjoy it?
So I watched tv shows, just to put my mind on vacation.

A week ago I tried to go back to reading. Didn't work. I spent most of my time ranting about heroines with piss poor attitudes and ended up turning me into a homicidal bitch. I wonder sometimes what the hell is wrong with these authors for writing about such whiny and bitchy heroines that makes me wants to strangle them.

Then yesterday on my newsfeed, I saw Aestas book club mentioning this book, called Unteachable. And those words caught me: a student and teacher relationship.
Omg like how cool is that? I'm a HUGE fan of forbidden romance. I've read most forbidden romance books suggested by Goodreads. But most of them didn't hold the appeal to the theme. Most of them can't even light a fecking candle! Come on! The taste of forbidden fruit is supposed to be alluring, seductive and full of secrecy. SECRETS. And secrets are wonderful because that's something you hold in your soul. It's what makes forbidden romance so damn addictive. The secrecy and the obstacles.

So I decided to give Unteachable a go and wow fecking wowzer! It's amazing. It's breathtaking. It makes me so alive. It sparks my soul and I feel whole again. Like a flame that lights up the entire sky. It burns.
I'm still in complete awe. I fell in love with Maise right from the beginning. This book is not just erotica. It's more than that. It's art with words plucked and formed into perfection. Words that are intense. Words from the soul.

You can call it love, or you can call it freefall. They're pretty much the same thing.

This is what being in love feels like, Wesley. Gratitude. Gratitude that you exist in this fucked up, beautiful universe.

Now you understand why I'm in love?

I also love her for her humour, her courage and her strong wit. She has a fucked up childhood and yet she carries herself with head high in the air. Not a victim, a survivor. I think its why Evan is attracted to her. That despite her troubled childhood, Maise still carries a wealth of emotions.

As for Evan...damn let's say I'm also having hots for the teacher. God damn that man is so downright fuckable. it's not just Evan and Maise who feels that their student and teacher status is what's driving their relationship. As a reader, that also excites me. As if I'm also sharing their secret.

This book is an addiction. It's not your typical love story. It's a fucked up, beautiful story. A beautiful disaster.

"The more you took, the more you needed. And you'd keep taking more and more until you overdosed,"

That sums up perfectly of what I feel towards this book.
I need more. I crave for more.

                                                            Save me by L.J Baker

                                                                   Goodreads

 Blurb:

Andi was doing just fine on her own. Sure the world had been hit with an outbreak that turned anyone infected into flesh eating zombies. Not to mention that everyone she ever loved was now dead. She was alive though, taking care of herself. She had little desire to indulge in building relationships with anyone. People just couldn't be trusted. Whether they screwed you over intentionally, or just managed to get themselves killed, no one stuck around for very long. She didn't need anyone else either. That was until Will showed up to save her.

Will, with his sparkling green eyes, lips you just wanted to taste, and insanely adorable crooked smile, wasn't letting Andi get rid of him so easily. Yet still, Andi did everything she could to push her feelings, and Will, away. The more time they spent together though, the more difficult that became. In a world where another day was not something you could count on, wasting even a single moment, could mean missing out on your only chance for happiness.

Aimi's thoughts:

When I first found out that this is a zombie apocalyptic book, I was terrified. I'm not much of a zombie fan. I nearly crapped myself watching the Walking Dead tv series, but it's kind of like you're witnessing a terrible accident happening and you just can't turn away despite being terrified to death? Walking Dead is like that for me. It scares me. I couldn't be alone for a while (big wimp I know). Did it stopped me from watching it? Hell no. In fact, I'm addicted. I need those freaking zombies whether if I like it or not.
So when I stumble upon this book, I was kinda happy and terrified at the same time. I want to feel that goosebump creeping into me. But what did I get? Nada.
Dude. Post apocalyptic world. It's suppose to be terrifying, running for your lives kind of situation. But this book hardly mentions much about the gore, about the scariness of the zombies or any goosebumps inducing scenarios. In fact, this twit of a heroine seems to skip around in daylight without much of a weapon and still lives the day. Wtf? Sometimes, I wish that the heroine, Andi gets eaten by a zombie just to see some action happening.
I think Ms. Baker aims for the heroine to have a snarky attitude. She's more like a spoiled brat to me.
For example, Andi refuses to kill a child zombie despite that little killer hobbling towards her like she's chow meat and Will, the hero got pissed at her. And Andi was like, 'dude, why are you pissed?'.
Correct quotes are: 'I don't know why he was being such a jerk. He knew it was difficult for me. Why did he need to push so hard?'
wtf man. Andi, you're surviving the zombie apocalypse. Duh! It's hardly the time and place to be picky!
And also, Will tries to save her sorry ass many times and she ended up getting pissed.
'He really was being an ass. How long did I need to be punished for one little mistake? He was being a little ridiculous now, holding a grudge this long over me going upstairs without him'.
This nice guy tries to save her life and she's being a bitch about it *smh*.

Overall, it was a pretty short read although I could've used that time to read other books. Or re-watch my asian dramas.

                                                Angelfall by Susan EE

Blurb:

It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

Aimi's thoughts:

THIS BOOK IS SOOOO EPIC!!! OMG I barely breathe throughout the entire book, its soo awesome and terrifying! I thought hunger games is bad enough, but angelfall is downright apocalyptic <3

Okay deep breath.

Now to the main point. I rarely give five stars reviews. Ever. The only books that I gave five stars reviews are the kind of books that got me totally mindfucked to the borderline of insanity. The kind of books where I wish to hurl it against the wall, scream at it then clutch it to my chest. Lock myself in the bathroom and cry my heart out when it was over. Walk around in daze for couple of days because my mind is still in that world, because that one moment, my mind thinks that I'm the character in the book. All the sufferings and loneliness and happiness and joy course through my body as if my soul has just experienced a huge emotional trauma. It makes me alive.

And Angelfall fits nicely in that five star category. I clutched to the edge of my seat as my heart throbbed painfully every time I flicked through the pages. It was a roller coaster experience, my emotions whacked to one plane and jumped to the other axis. I cried, I despaired, I treasure every bit of the sweet banter and the deepening relationship of Penryn and Raffe. I love Penryn, the heroine in the book. She's a human with a very strong will, putting up a brave front against a stronger species. She shows courage, strength and loyalty towards her family and the angel Raffe. Yeah I totally dig for that kind of badassery. I really look forward for more sparks flying between Penryn and Raffe in the next book because it makes everything worth it: daughter of man and an angel, a forbidden love which surely will stir up the world in this post apocalyptic series.
What I love about this series is that its original. It's different from other contemporary, urban fantasy, dystopia and other genres. It's beautifully written with an evocative style of writing. Some parts are downright gruesome to the point that goosebumps rose on my skin. There is a mixture of different elements in the book: love, loyalty, badass, strength, courage, fear etc. It's not just a romance book or an action book. It's a mixture of everything combined into beautiful cleverly woven words.

I love angelfall because it makes me feel, stir up those emotions inside me that I've never experienced in my mundane life. I look forward for the next installment because damnit I don't think my heart can take it any longer with all this anticipation!
